Custom Orthotics
The foot is composed of 26 bones which need to function properly in order for us to walk properly. When we have weak eyes, we wear glasses. We use orthotics in much the same way for our feet. If we are unable to provide relief of discomfort with shoe gear changes or with over the counter inserts, we fabricate an orthotic.
Orthotics are custom made shoe inserts. They are meant to be movable, to address your individual condition. We start with a biomechanical exam of your foot to determine your foot structure and gait. We then take a plaster impression of your foot. Your foot is held in the proper position until the plaster dries. We now have a mold which we can use to fabricate your device.
It takes roughly 2-3 weeks from your casting until you receive your orthotics. They can be made from a variety of different materials. Our goal is to provide you with a quality device which can be worn in the majority of your shoes.
Orthotics are an investment in yourself, our goal is to keep you active. Generally orthotics will last 4-7 years or longer. It is important to notice that just as everything else about us is changing, so do our feet. Normally in that 4-7 year span it can be time to update your devices with a new cast. You will begin to show symptoms and will know its time for a re-check.
